Let me preface this by saying something, "Yes, we eat pizza!" We actually eat pizza almost every Friday. We eat gluten, we eat junk. Sometimes you may even see us downin' a meat and potato burrito from Taco John's. However, most of the time we prefer to cook at home. It helps the budget, it tastes delicious, it's fun, and mostly, you don't have to shower.
Take a moment and dream about the perfect pizza. Maybe it's the toppings. Maybe it's the cheese. For many, it's the perfect crust. (Sadly, the only photo I have doesn't showcase the crust.)
- 1.5 cups warm water
- 1 T. yeast
- 1 T. sugar (or a little of our delicious honey)
- 1 t. salt
- 1 T. oil
- 3.5 cups (+ or -) cups flour
1. Mix water and sugar. Add yeast, let rest for 10 minutes.
2. Add oil, salt and 1.5 cups flour. Mix. Add 2 more cups and mix until dough pulls away from bowl. Add flour 1/4 cup at a time and knead for 5 minutes. (Just use your mixer! Ya know, that KitchenAid you never get out of storage)
4. Cover and let rise 1 to 2 hours.
5. Punch dough and roll out to form your pizza shape. For us, it's usually a blob shape because I'm not super particular. Poke some holes in the crust and add sauce and toppings.
6. Bake at 425 degrees F for 16 minutes or so.
Garlic Butter Crust:
melt some butter in a dish in the oven at end of pizza baking. Then add some minced garlic (or garlic powder) and Parmesan cheese. Brush on the crust. YUM!
For us, pizza is about using up those leftover parts of onions, peppers, etc. you've had in the fridge all week. Make use of them on your delicious pizza!
